Picasso Bouquet

2nd Grade artists looked at Hands with Flowers by Pablo Picasso.  They traced and cut out their own hand to create a 3D flower bouquet collage for Mother's Day.

Jim Dine Watercolors

2nd grade artists looked at this image of one of Jim Dine's paintings:

They used the wet-on-wet watercolor technique and each created 4 mini-paintings.
  1. Paint 4, 5"x5" squares
  2. Paint 4, 3"x3" squares
  3. When dry, cut out hearts from smaller squares.
  4. Mix and match hearts onto different larger squares and glue in center.
  5. Mount on 12"x12" black construction paper.

Faith Ringgold Quilts

2nd grade artists learned about famous artist Faith Ringgold who is a painter, quilt-maker, author, and illustrator.  They weaved paper to make their own quilts and added a picture of a favorite memory in the center.
