5th Grade Poinsettia Prints

5th grade artists learned about the mono-printing technique (also called stamping). They created these poinsettia prints using sponges.

Kindergarten Crazy Corn

Kindergarten artists each made a crazy corn collage using square pieces of  scrap paper.  Each class had their own stalks of corn!

Kindergarten Sugar Skulls

Kindergarten artists learned about el Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) which is a Mexican holiday that honors deceased loved ones on November 2nd. We looked closely at the sugar skulls which are not meant to be scary, but more of a way to remember those we have lost.  Who knew that skulls could be so beautiful!

1st Grade Fall Collage

1st grade artists used texture to create "crazy paper" by painting with texture and cut out shapes to create fall collages.

5th Grade Fall Trees

5th grade artists students talked about perspective and that objects in the foreground are larger than those in the background.  They used the leaves of these fall trees to show perspective using watercolor.

3rd Grade Fall Landscapes

3rd Grade students learned how to draw trees and created fall landscapes using background, middle ground, and foreground.

2nd Grade Collage Owls

2nd grade artists learned about owls and made these owl collages using torn paper.

1st Grade Primary Color Hands

1st Grade artists learned about the primary colors.   They traced their hands and painted the background yellow, one hand red and one hand blue.   The result is a great keepsake for parents!

Kindergarten's Many Colored Days

Kindergarten artists read 'My Many Colored Days' by Dr. Seuss and discussed colors.  They created  an image similar to the one in the illustrations and used line design.  Adding color made the pictures come to life!

1. Fold paper in half and in half again.
2. Open paper and trace lines in black crayon.
3. Trace a person shape in the center.
4. Draw circles in the background of one square, stripes in the second, zig-zag in the third, and triangles in the last square.
5. Add color using crayon.

3rd Grade Frogs

3rd grade artists read "Picasso the Green Tree Frog" paying close attention to the illustrations.  We then learned to draw frogs and used wet-on-wet watercolor technique to make them look like the pictures in the book.

Student Teaching Projects

Some of the great projects from student teaching.

 Kindergarten  Kandinsky Circles-
Each student cut out and glued circles in either warm or cool colors. 

 1st Grade Fishbowls.

We drew the bowl, table (horizon line), and background. Then we added fish and an environment for the fish.  Color in with crayons and use watercolor resist for the blue water! 

 1st Grade Positive/Negative Hearts

Kindergarten Rainbow Fish: We read the story and each student made one of the glittery scales using marker lids as stamps with colorful and metallic paint.  The kids loved having their Rainbow Fish outside of their classroom!

4th grade Rotational Symmetry

4th Grade Students learned about rotational symmetry by making these Pennsylvania Dutch Hex Signs.
